Gavin Chilcott is an extraordinarily versatile and prolific artist, working across different media as the mood takes him. He lives and works in the foothills of the Tararua Ranges beside the Waingawa River.

Chilcott's recent paintings owe a debt to early 19th century animal portraits of horses and cattle - his 'Noa Noa' series of rugs have a similar amusing quality.
