Simon Ogden’s work draws from a long-held interest in European, English and American Modernism and Surrealism. In this, he explores the relationship between the Arts and Crafts movement and the fine arts. His rugs extend the visual recovery established in the linoleum works into another medium and another scale. The title of a show of the rugs held in Sydney in 2009, Floor Wall Floor Wall aptly expresses the multidimensional nature of the process and the final outcome.

9 Graces II is one of the three erotic rugs produced by Dilana. In these rugs Simon is using symbols evoking intimacy, i.e. birds feeding, flowers opening, drops of nectar. In this particular rug, the visual punctum point is a jewel-like tear drop made of sterling silver hand-beaten, gold plated, inlaid into the wool. There is no ambiguity about the erotic nature of the iconography used.
