Dilana’s collaboration with renowned Christchurch artist, art teacher and printmaker Micheal Reed spans decades, with many successful rugs made. Our latest accomplishment is a hand knotted runner, in a contemporary, graphic style that draws on traditional Pacific designs.
The artist developed this work from studies of Pacific artefacts done over a 10 year period, starting in the late 1980’s, in museums across Aotearoa and Australia.
This particular design was based on a detail of an intricately carved and heavily weathered wooden panel. In this way, a traditional Pacific design had a modern interpretation by the artist, in the form of mixed media on paper.
Lastly, the design was transformed into a strikingly beautiful and bold hand-knotted rug, weaving different techniques and artists’ visions into a final work of floor-covering art.
