DON PEEBLES (1922-2010)
Don Peebles trained at Wellington Technical College of Art from 1947-50. In 1951-53 he lived in Sydney, studying under John Passmore at the Julian Ashton School of Arts. Assisted by a grant he travelled to London in 1960, where he met and was influenced by British artist Victor Passmore.
He returned to New Zealand in 1964 and took up a Lectureship at Canterbury School of Arts, and held this position until 1982. In 1986 he retired from the University and spent the remainder of his life pursuing his painting career.
