Kate Wells is a New Zealand textile artist whose practice moves between drawing, painting and tapestry. Her work explores the quiet relationships between land, light and memory, drawing inspiration from the natural rhythms and changing moods of Aotearoa.

Working from her South Island studio, Kate uses thread as both line and texture, layering embroidery with painterly depth to capture the movement and stillness of the landscape. Her distinctive approach transforms observation into tactile compositions that speak to place and emotion.

A long-standing collaborator with Dilana, Kate has created several designs for the Artist Collection, including Nor’Wester Grasses, Chilli Jam, To Miro and Short Sheep. Each piece reflects her sensitivity to material and form, translating her stitched imagery into the language of wool and colour.

Her work continues to reveal a deep appreciation for the natural world and the stories held within it, an ongoing conversation between art, craft and landscape.
